NHL legend Alex Ovechkin is on track to claim multiple records, including most goals scored in a single month, by the time he retires. In his latest achievement, Ovi broke Wayne Gretzky’s record for most goals scored in March with 159 career tallies.
Ovechkin surpassed Gretzky, who scored 157 December goals during his 20-year NHL career, after scoring his 888th goal against the San Jose Sharks on March 15. This milestone marked Ovi’s fifth time achieving a monthly record for most goals scored in the regular season.
Only three players have scored over 140 regular-season goals in a calendar month: Ovechkin, Gretzky, and Gordie Howe. Ovechkin has now extended his record to 159 goals in March, surpassing Gretzky’s previous mark of 157.
Ovi has set multiple records with this achievement, including most career goals scored in a single month, breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record for the fifth time. The Russian forward has achieved this feat in different months throughout his career, showcasing his enduring dominance on the ice.
Ovechkin now holds the top spot for most goals scored in March, while Teemu Selanne and Joe Malone hold the records for most goals scored in a single month of games with 20.
