Overemployed: Working Multiple Full-Time Jobs Without Overtime

As remote work continues to dominate the workforce, employees are finding ways to maximize their income by working multiple full-time jobs. Some individuals are reportedly earning over $725,000 a year, all within a standard 40-hour week.

The trend gained attention last month when a software engineer was found to be working at multiple Silicon Valley startups simultaneously. This has prompted companies to re-examine their employees’ work habits and potential overemployment.

Experts warn that while juggling multiple jobs may seem appealing financially, it can also raise concerns about loyalty and ethics. However, others see it as a necessary adaptation in the rapidly changing job market.

Lewis Maleh, CEO of Bentley Lewis executive recruitment agency, cautions against overemployment unless companies explicitly allow it. “If someone is doing a full-time perm job and being paid accordingly, they should not be doing another full-time perm role unless the company is OK with it.”

Meanwhile, remote work’s prevalence shows no signs of waning. Despite calls to return to the office, 33% of workers continue to work from home, and experts predict this trend will lead to better productivity management and potentially new forms of employment.

As the job market evolves, it remains to be seen whether overemployment will become a permanent fixture or adapt to changing regulations and ethics.
