Overwatch 2’s Gundam Wing Collab Celebrates Anime Legacy

Overwatch 2 has collaborated with anime giant Gundam Wing on its latest crossover event. The collaboration, which includes four premium skins inspired by iconic Mobile Suits from the show, was influenced by Gunpla model kits and sales data.

In 2025, Blizzard Entertainment celebrated Gundam Wing’s 30th anniversary in various ways, including this crossover with their free-to-play shooter. The skins pay homage to some of the show’s most popular designs, such as the Gundam Zero piloted by Mercy, Soldier: 76’s Tallgeese, Ramattra’s Epyon, and Reaper’s Deathscythe.

GameSpot spoke with Overwatch 2 art director Dion Rogers and associate director of product management Aimee Dennett to discuss how Gunpla model kits played a role in the selection process. The team examined actual Gunpla models for each Mobile Suit and tried to mimic their internal structure in their respective skins.

Blizzard chose the Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz film designs over the show’s original versions, citing a desire to pick one or the other to avoid a mix. For Overwatch characters, the team narrowed down which fits best and considered factors like how often a character hadn’t received a skin in a while or surprising players with new combinations.

While Blizzard couldn’t include some characters they wanted to, such as D.Va and Mauga’s Heavyarms, others like Ramattra and Reaper were clear choices. Bandai provided data on Gunpla sales and suggested collaboration, and even contributed artwork for the in-game lobby.

The four Mobile Suit-inspired skins will be available starting April 29, along with free Gundam-themed challenge rewards. Bundles containing all the items for each skin will cost between 2,800 to 5,900 Overwatch Coins.
