Heavy metal icons Black Sabbath have announced their highly anticipated “final” show featuring the original lineup, including Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. The benefit concert, titled ‘Back to the Beginning’, will take place at Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 5.
The event will also feature a star-studded lineup of metal bands, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Halestorm, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax, Mastodon and a supergroup consisting of Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Wolfgang Van Halen and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello. Morello will serve as musical director.
The concert will be a farewell tour for Black Sabbath, with vocalist Ozzy Osbourne set to perform his own short set before joining the band for what is expected to be their final performance together. The original lineup has not performed together in over 20 years.
All profits from the show will benefit three local charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice. In a statement, Ozzy Osbourne expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to perform with his bandmates once again, saying “Birmingham is the true home of metal.”
