Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness and iconic heavy metal musician, has been laid to rest in accordance with his final wishes. Born in Birmingham, where he spent much of his life, Ozzy passed away on July 22 at the age of 76, weeks after performing a farewell concert in the city.
The news of his death was met with shock and sadness from fans worldwide. His family announced his passing in an emotional statement, confirming that he had died surrounded by love and asking for privacy at this time. The funeral took place in Birmingham on July 30, where thousands gathered to pay their respects to Ozzy’s legacy.
Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife, has since honoured his final wishes as stated in his autobiography I Am Ozzy, published in 2010. According to the book, Ozzy wanted to be buried in a grave with a tree planted over his head, specifically a crabapple tree. He also joked about wanting his children to make wine from his remains and having fun. Sharon and her family have respected these wishes by burying him on their property close to Gerrards Cross.
A poignant tribute was paid to Ozzy at the gravesite, with the word “Ozzy” written in purple flowers behind the manor house and three bunches of purple plants placed nearby, reading “OZZY F*****G OSBOURNE”. This reflects Ozzy’s humorous approach to his own funeral, as he once joked that his family could play a medley of pop songs or heavy metal tunes at his service if it made them happy.
