Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne will be given a fitting tribute by the city of Birmingham, where his music career began. A lively procession along Broad Street is planned for Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by a live brass band performance. The event is part of a private family funeral, which will honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Ozzy.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE, JP, said that honoring Osbourne in his hometown was essential. “Ozzy was more than a music legend – he was a son of Birmingham,” he stated. The city will host the farewell ceremony with his loving family, who have generously offered to pay for it.
Osbourne’s family, including wife Sharon and children Aimee, Jack, Kelly, and Jessica, will hold an intimate funeral celebration of his life. His wishes on what he wanted at his funeral were shared in a 2011 column: “I want to make sure it’s a celebration, not a mope-fest.” The family is touched by the love and support pouring in from around the world.
Osbourne recently performed his final concert with Black Sabbath in Birmingham, hosted by Jason Momoa. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003 but didn’t speak publicly about it until 2020. The rocker passed away on July 22, leaving behind a legacy of music and laughter.
