Heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne will be honored in his hometown of Birmingham with a funeral procession, complete with a brass band, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. local time. The event will take place at the Black Sabbath bridge and bench, where fans have gathered as a memorial since Osbourne’s passing on July 22.
The procession will feature music by the Bostin’ Brass group, while live camera footage of the event will be available online for those unable to attend in person. Birmingham’s honorary lord mayor has praised Osbourne, describing him as “more than a music legend — he was a son of Birmingham.” The city is providing support for the private funeral, which will be held later, thanks in part to the contributions of Ozzy’s family.
The event comes weeks after an all-star farewell concert in Birmingham, where Osbourne performed with Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.
