P.J. Fleck Celebrates Mayo Bowl Win with Unforgettable Bath

The University of Minnesota football team secured a 24-10 victory over Virginia Tech in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Friday night, and head coach P.J. Fleck celebrated with his signature mayo bath.

Fleck said the experience was “everything and more” than he expected, describing it as an “exhilarating” feeling that rivaled one of the most intense experiences he’s had in NASCAR racing.

The team’s gritty performance, despite not playing their best game of the year, earned them a win that capped off a 6-0 record in bowl games under Fleck. The Gophers’ defense led the charge, with Elijah Spencer and Darius Taylor making key plays to secure the victory.

Spencer caught six passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns, while Taylor had 20 carries for 113 yards and a score. Max Brosmer threw for 211 yards and one touchdown in his final game as quarterback. The team’s five sacks and forced turnover on downs sealed their win over Virginia Tech.

With the season finale now complete, Minnesota wraps up at 8-5 overall and sets a new record of 6-0 in bowl games under Fleck’s leadership.
