The Eastern Conference finals are heading into its final game with the Indiana Pacers leading the series 3-2, setting up a chance for them to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2000. The Pacers will need Tyrese Haliburton to bounce back from his disappointing performance in Game 5.
Haliburton’s play has been crucial for the Pacers all season, and he averaged 21.3 points on 47.7% shooting in their 11 playoff wins this postseason. However, he scored only eight points in Game 5, which was a low point for the team. To close out the series, Haliburton acknowledged that he needs to be more aggressive.
The Pacers’ success also depends on other players stepping up. Aaron Nesmith, who has been struggling with an ankle injury, is crucial on both ends of the court and needs to be healthier and play more in Game 6. For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson’s defense will be a key factor. The Pacers targeted him all series, but he was only torched once in Game 4.
Coach Tom Thibodeau must also make some crucial decisions for Game 6. One of them is to maintain his rotation and being flexible with it, as it has been a saving grace for the Knicks in this series. Additionally, playing key reserves like Delon Wright and Landry Shamet can hold up against the Pacers’ potent offense.
If the Knicks force the series back to New York, Game 7 at the World’s Most Famous Arena would be electric. However, considering Indiana’s advantages throughout the series, it’s a tall order for the Knicks to achieve.
