Packers Release Injured CB Jaire Alexander After Contract Standoff

The Green Bay Packers released cornerback Jaire Alexander on Monday, bringing an end to a long offseason saga over his contract and health. The move comes after two straight injury-filled seasons that limited Alexander’s playing time.

Alexander was one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL during his seven seasons with the Packers, but injuries plagued him throughout that period. He appeared in just 34 games since the start of the 2021 season, including only four regular-season games due to a shoulder injury.

The team had offered Alexander a revised contract deal in recent days, but the two sides could not reach an agreement. The Packers will now pick up over $17 million in salary cap space for this season.

In a statement, general manager Brian Gutekunst said that Alexander’s contributions to the organization would be missed, and he wished him well moving forward. The decision marks the end of Alexander’s time with the Packers, after a decade-long career marked by impressive play and limited availability due to injury.
