The Green Bay Packers sealed their playoff spot by dominating the New Orleans Saints 34-0 on Monday Night Football. The Packers’ offense was relentless, scoring touchdowns on each of its first three possessions and cruising to a easy victory.
Interim head coach Darren Rizzi attributed his team’s success to better execution and coaching. “We came in with a plan for how we felt we could win this game; we didn’t accomplish any of those goals,” he said.
The Saints, meanwhile, were hindered by injuries and ineffectiveness. Quarterback Spencer Rattler was unable to provide the spark that rookie quarterback Jake Haener brought last week, completing only 15 of his 30 passes.
New Orleans’ defense also struggled, failing to contain Green Bay’s potent rushing attack led by Josh Jacobs. Jacobs scored a touchdown on the opening drive and continued to break tackles throughout the game, finishing with 69 yards on 13 carries.
The Saints are now 5-10 and must win both of their final two games to avoid their worst record since 2005. “It’s tough,” said safety Tyrann Mathieu. “This is the toughest one yet, for sure. We thought we had a chance, we thought we could really play with those guys.”
