Paige Bueckers Loses Rookie Season Due to New Arena Delays

The Dallas Wings, who selected UConn star Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick in the recent WNBA draft, will face a challenge in their rookie season. The team’s new arena and practice facility, expected to debut next year, are not ready for Bueckers’ maiden season.

According to Front Office Sports, the facility, practice facility, and new arena are scheduled to be completed by 2026. As a result, the Wings will have to continue playing at College Park Center on the University of Texas at Arlington campus, their home since relocating from Tulsa in 2016. The team’s move to downtown Dallas is set for 2026, with a new practice facility and renovated arena ready to be used.

The news has raised questions about how Bueckers will adapt to her new environment without the full support of the team’s facilities. “They don’t have these things in place this year,” said Annie Costabile. The Wings’ general manager Curt Miller has already reshaped the roster with significant trades and free-agent signings, but the lack of a suitable practice facility may hinder Bueckers’ development.
