Panasonic Lumix S1RII Camera Upgraded with 8K Video, Improved Autofocus

Panasonic has announced an upgraded version of its 2019 Lumix S1R camera, the Lumix S1RII. The new model boasts a smaller body, faster autofocus, and improved video capabilities, including 8K recording at 30 frames per second.

The S1RII features a new 44.3-megapixel back-side illuminated CMOS sensor, which is smaller than its predecessor’s 47.3-megapixel sensor. However, the camera’s improved video features, such as capturing 5.8K Apple ProRes RAW HQ or ProRes RAW without an external recorder, will appeal to hybrid shooters.

In addition to its new sensor, the S1RII introduces faster phase-detect autofocus and improved stabilization. The camera also offers better eye and face detection, along with AI-powered tracking accuracy for moving subjects.

Other notable features of the Lumix S1RII include a handheld high-resolution mode that can capture 177-megapixel still images, full-resolution 12-bit RAW still images at up to 40 frames per second using electronic shutter, and in-body image stabilization that improves to eight stops of shake reduction.

The camera comes with a 5.76 million dot OLED viewfinder and a three-inch articulated touchscreen LCD display. The S1RII is expected to be available in late March for $3,299.99, making it a highly capable hybrid camera for photographers and videographers.
