Panasonic has announced the Lumix ZS99 / TZ99, a new point-and-shoot camera that boasts an impressive 30x optical zoom, rivaling even the iPhone. Available from February 2025, this compact camera features a Leica lens and can be digitally doubled to 60x using Panasonic’s iZoom feature.
Weighing just 11.35oz (322g), the Lumix ZS99 / TZ99 packs a 1.84m-dot tilt touchscreen, a new quick-send image button for smartphone uploads, and supports USB-C charging, aligning with the EU’s Common Charger Directive set to come into force in 2025.
The camera can capture 20.3MP photos, 4K video up to 30fps, and HD video at 120fps, along with a vertical video mode supported by Panasonic’s 5-axis Hybrid Optical image stabilization. Although not drastically different from its predecessor, the Lumix ZS80 / TZ80, this new model offers a significant update in terms of charging.
The Lumix ZS99 / TZ99 will retail for $499 (£469 AU$999) and is designed to keep the point-and-shoot line alive. While it may not be a groundbreaking camera, it provides decent value for those looking for a compact and affordable option.
