Paramount Post-Merger Slate Sparks Hope for Revitalized Studio

Hours after the Skydance-Paramount merger closed, the new studio leadership group led by co-chairs Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg sent a clear message that they’re committed to reviving the studio’s feature film slate. The move was underscored during a Los Angeles presser, where CEO David Ellison emphasized restoring Paramount as the No. 1 studio for filmmakers and talent worldwide.

The new administration aims to scale content production for its streaming service and studios, with plans to release 15 movies per year ASAP, followed by 20 movies in the near future. The goal is also to increase feature film output, which had been hindered by financial constraints under previous leadership.

High-profile franchises like Star Trek, Top Gun, and Transformers are high priorities for the new top brass, with Ellison’s Skydance involvement expected to boost production of Paramount titles. Goldberg emphasized that Star Trek is a priority across the company, while also mentioning plans for new character-driven films.

The studio has several projects in development, including High Side, The Rescue, and an untitled John Tuggle film starring David Corenswet. A film based on the Mike Hammer books, starring Matthew McConaughey, is also in the works. Paramount’s 2025-2026 release schedule has been announced, featuring films like SpongeBob Movie: The Search for Squarepants and Scary Movie.

However, not all is rosy, as the studio faces challenges with upcoming releases, including a sequel to Roasting Rat that saw some major cast changes. It remains to be seen whether this slate will revitalize the brand or if it’s just another attempt at revamping an existing franchise.
