Paramount Pictures, parent company of BET, MTV, and the film studio, has revised its approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (D.E.I.) policies following a broader backlash driven by the Trump administration. The changes aim to align with federal efforts to eliminate diversity programs.
In an internal memo obtained by The New York Times, Paramount’s co-chief executives announced that they are ending practices of setting aspirational hiring goals based on race or ethnicity. The company will also stop collecting data on gender and diversity for U.S. job applicants and eliminating the D.E.I. component from its employee incentive plan.
The move follows similar changes made by other major companies, including Target, Walmart, Meta, and Disney, which have reconsidered their D.E.I. initiatives since President Trump took office in January. Paramount’s actions are also influenced by its pending merger with Skydance, which is under review by the Federal Communications Commission.
