Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger Moves Closer to EU Approval

Paramount’s $110B deal with Warner Bros. Discovery is nearing approval in Europe. The European Commission, the EU’s antitrust regulator, will likely clear the takeover without a deeper investigation. Representatives from Paramount and Warner met with officials on Tuesday.

To address monopoly fears, regulators may ask Paramount to make concessions. These could include exiting its international distribution deal with Universal Pictures or divesting children’s TV network assets. Paramount is prepared to divest some of its networks to ease EU regulatory hurdles.

The European Commission process differs from the UK, where a merger inquiry has been opened. The commission is also examining Paramount’s Middle Eastern investors, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar Investment Authority.
