A massive fire broke out at a recycling plant in Paris’s 17th arrondissement, engulfing the building and sending thick black smoke into the air. Flames reached high into the sky, causing authorities to urge residents to stay away from the area.
Around 60 fire trucks and 200 firefighters battled the blaze, which was described as “extremely aggressive” by officials. However, no casualties were reported.
The Syctom recycling plant, which handles waste for nearly a million Paris residents, suffered significant damage after the fire began in a basement where highly combustible materials were present. The site’s president said that the most important thing is that there was no human damage during the disaster.
Firefighters arrived quickly and managed to evacuate all staff from the building before it was engulfed by flames. The mayor of the affected district praised the firefighters’ swift response, saying they “arrived very quickly” to combat the fire.
