Skiers at Park City Mountain Resort in Utah faced delays due to a strike by ski patrol workers that entered its fifth day. Nearly 200 workers are on strike, demanding higher pay, with an entry-level base wage of $23 per hour. The resort remained open on Tuesday, but many lifts and trails were closed.
The union, representing ski patrol staff, claims the company has only met 24 of their demands since contract negotiations expired in April. Despite this, Vail Resorts says it has increased wages by over 50% during the past four seasons, with the average hourly wage now exceeding $25.
Vail Resorts operates several other resorts worldwide and had to bring in “scabs” from other resorts to maintain operations on Tuesday. The resort resumed same-day lift ticket sales after a brief halt on Monday.
