Pasta Meal Recall Spreads Listeria Outbreak Nationwide

A multistate outbreak of listeria has affected 27 people across 18 states, resulting in seven deaths and six reported cases of severe illness. The FDA is investigating a recalled supply from Nate’s Fine Foods, which supplied ready-to-eat pasta salads to major grocery chains like Trader Joe’s, Sprouts Farmers Market, Kroger, and Walmart.

Listeria poses a significant risk to vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Consuming contaminated food can lead to severe conditions, including hospitalization and death.

Symptoms of listeriosis may appear within 2 weeks after eating contaminated food but can start as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks later. Common symptoms include fever, muscle aches, tiredness, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and seizures.
