Path of Exile 2’s developers had warned players ahead of time about potential login, server, and queue issues at launch. Despite this, the game still experienced problems upon its scheduled start time at 2 PM ET. The game remains offline as updates have revealed a series of issues, including database upgrades and a last-minute crash.
According to the developers, they were attempting to handle the large number of players eager to log in by making “last-minute database upgrades.” However, these efforts may have caused short delays in the servers going live. After the launch, further updates stated that the developers were working on deploying new database improvements and hoped to provide a precise timeline soon.
Later updates revealed that a last-minute crash had affected many users and was now fixed. The developers attributed the issue to adding more database shards to support massive player numbers, which caused multiple characters to have the same character ID. Thankfully, the problem has been identified and is being addressed.
As of 5 PM ET, some players were able to log in, but others experienced disconnection and party issues. The game’s popularity is not surprising given its storied history and long development time. While Marvel Rivals’ launch was successful without server issues, Path of Exile 2’s experience may still yield impressive viewing numbers on platforms like Twitch.
The game’s mix of new and old players will be crucial to understanding how well it performs, especially for potential Diablo converts. For now, updates are necessary before access can open again.
