Former Bellator double champion Patricio Freire has officially joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), marking a new chapter in his illustrious MMA career. The 36-year-old Brazilian fighter made the announcement during an exclusive interview with MMA Junkie, revealing that the journey to UFC onboarding was filled with uncertainty and obstacles.
According to Freire, there were internal divisions within the UFC brass regarding his signing, with one person expressing concerns about his age. However, after presenting a strong case, including his willingness to fight top contenders, Freire’s concerns were alleviated.
The newly signed fighter has set his sights on the UFC featherweight division, where he will make his debut against Yair Rodriguez on April 12 at UFC 314 in Miami.
