Patricio Freire Joins UFC After Decade-Long Journey

Former Bellator double champion Patricio Freire has officially joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), marking a new chapter in his illustrious MMA career. The 36-year-old Brazilian fighter made the announcement during an exclusive interview with MMA Junkie, revealing that the journey to UFC onboarding was filled with uncertainty and obstacles.

According to Freire, there were internal divisions within the UFC brass regarding his signing, with one person expressing concerns about his age. However, after presenting a strong case, including his willingness to fight top contenders, Freire’s concerns were alleviated.

The newly signed fighter has set his sights on the UFC featherweight division, where he will make his debut against Yair Rodriguez on April 12 at UFC 314 in Miami. Freire, who is currently ranked outside the title picture, aims to prove himself as a formidable opponent in the division and eventually challenge for the championship.

Despite concerns about his age, Freire insists that science is on his side, citing improved strength, power, and conditioning. He has also overcome a recent neck surgery, which he believes has helped him regain his strength and momentum.

Freire’s focus is now squarely on winning his debut fight and challenging for the UFC title in the future. With his unique blend of experience, technical skill, and determination, the Brazilian fighter is eager to make an impact in the UFC featherweight division.
