Patrick Gelsinger’s Christian AI Vision

Tech industry leader Patrick Gelsinger, a born-again Christian, is shaping Silicon Valley’s culture with his vision for “faith-driven” artificial intelligence. After being forced out of Intel, he now runs Gloo, a technology company catering to churches and faith organizations. With a $110 million war chest, Gloo aims to develop AI that reflects Christian values.

Gelsinger sees AI as an opportunity to change the course of history, similar to the printing press during the Reformation. He believes the church should be at the forefront of shaping this technology, rather than just embracing it. His goal is to create a powerful embodiment of Christianity through AI.

Gloo recently hosted a hackathon with over 600 participants competing for prize money, showcasing its growing influence in the tech ecosystem. However, some attendees raised concerns about potential vulnerabilities in Gloo’s large language models. Gelsinger emphasizes that his company does not prohibit any faith organization from using its technology and aims to satisfy organizations across different denominations.

Gelsinger also spearheaded Gloo’s Flourishing AI initiative, evaluating leading large language models’ effects on human welfare across seven variables. The initiative has shown mixed results, with some models performing well in financial questions but underperforming in “Faith” or spiritual growth support.

As Gloo expands its reach, it appears to be engaging with prominent AI companies, including those with conservative ties. Gelsinger’s goal is not only to create faith-driven AI but also to have tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg take notice of his vision.
