Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered one of the worst games of his career as the Philadelphia Eagles dominated him and his team 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. Despite three touchdowns in the second half, Mahomes’ lackluster performance couldn’t overcome the Birds’ stifling defense, which sacked him six times and picked him off twice. The Eagles’ disciplined approach, not blitzing once during the game, left Mahomes reeling.
Mahomes took full responsibility for the tough loss, posting on social media that he “let [the] #ChiefsKingdom down today” but vowed to learn from it and continue working towards improvement. However, with his 30th birthday looming on September 17, the Chiefs’ dynasty is now in jeopardy of being cut short before achieving its goal of four Super Bowl wins.
The Chiefs’ struggles in the big game mark their second consecutive ugly loss, as they are now 3-2 in their last five Super Bowls. Despite this setback, Mahomes remains optimistic, stating “We will be back.”
