Patrick Roy to Remain Islanders Coach for 2025-26 Season

New York Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche has confirmed that coach Patrick Roy will return for the 2025-26 season. “Patrick’s a winner,” Darche said, highlighting Roy’s success in his first year with the team. The Islanders finished the current season at .500 and missed the playoffs due to long-term injuries to key players.

Darche aims to build a fast-paced team that prioritizes defense. With the No. 1 overall pick in June’s draft lottery, Darche plans to keep the selection despite potential interest from other teams. “Someone would really have to knock my socks off to trade that pick because we’re going to get a special player,” he stated.

The Islanders’ coaching staff for their American Hockey League affiliate has also been changed, with John MacLean and Tommy Albelin departing alongside the Bridgeport staff.
