Patriots Make Plans Ahead for Offseason and Draft

The NFL Scouting Combine has concluded, setting the stage for the upcoming free agency period next week and the draft later this month. For the New England Patriots, their top decision-makers had a busy week in Indianapolis gathering intel on their offseason plans.

The team is expected to be aggressive in free agency, focusing on upgrading both the offensive and defensive lines, which struggled last season. Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley has been the primary target for the Patriots, but his future with Baltimore remains uncertain due to franchise tag negotiations. If Stanley re-signs, New England may prioritize Steelers’ Dan Moore or Minnesota’s Cam Robinson as secondary options.

On the defensive side, Milton Williams is a top priority, and his price could exceed $20 million annually. Levi Onwuzurike is another name on watch, having had a career-year with 47 pressures last season.

The Patriots have also expressed interest in Jets’ Jamien Sherwood, who fits Vrabel’s defense profile, as well as San Francisco linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Additionally, they are eyeing Giants’ cornerback D.J. Reed and Vikings’ Byron Murphy.

In the NFL Draft, momentum is growing for the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns to select quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders in the top three picks. For the Patriots, a trade back would be an option if no quarterback remains on the board at No. 4, leaving them to consider LSU’s Will Campbell or Michigan’s Mason Graham.

The team’s coaching staff was present in Indianapolis, with vice president Ryan Cowden working closely with new head coach Vrabel. Jeremy Springer, special teams coordinator, also attended, while Eliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith rounded out the group of top executives.
