The New England Patriots kicked off their training camp with a 90-minute session that focused heavily on the running game. In full pads, the team worked through drills and scrimmages to fine-tune their skills. Standout players included defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson, who impressed despite limited pass rush opportunities.
Chaisson was one of two would-be sack artists in team drills, using his speed to burst off the edge against rookie tackles Marcus Bryant and Demontrey Jacobs. Despite not being perfect, he remains on an upward trajectory, currently ranked No. 3 edge on the roster behind Keion White and Harold Landry.
Other notable performances included wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk’s touchdown catch in a red zone drill, where he ran a corner route off a well-executed play-action fake. Rookie left tackle Will Campbell also impressed, showcasing his power, movement skills, and finishing ability throughout the session.
The team’s high-priced free agency addition, defensive tackle Milton Williams, had an up-and-down day, struggling with one-on-one reps against Cole Strange and rookie tackle Joshua Farmer. However, Parker Romo stepped in as kicker, making all six of his attempts in a surprising change from the first week of practice.
Other players worth mentioning included Jared Wilson, who looked solid but struggled with another botched exchange under center, and Sidy Sow, who dominated a one-on-one rep against rookie tackle Joshua Farmer. The Patriots will return to the practice fields on Tuesday for their sixth session of the summer.
