The Actors on Actors series, now with a new Broadway edition, has launched its first conversation featuring Patti LuPone and George Clooney. The duo discussed their respective projects this season, including Clooney’s upcoming play Good Night, and Good Luck, which recently broke records as the highest-grossing Broadway play of all time.
Clooney shed light on adapting his play for the stage, while LuPone shared her thoughts on working with Mia Farrow in The Roommate. They also discussed the importance of projection and the power of silence in storytelling. “[Projection] is about hitting the back wall,” LuPone noted. “The power of silence is deafening in a theater.”
LuPone praised Jamie Lloyd’s new concept for Sunset Boulevard, particularly Nicole Scherzinger’s performance. She expressed her disappointment with the 2023 revival of Sweeney Todd, stating it was played for jokes rather than its true tragic nature.
The Actors on Actors series will feature more conversations throughout awards season, including Audra McDonald, Jonathan Groff, and Jake Gyllenhaal, among others.
