Paul Rudd Returns as Retro-Futuristic Nintendo Switch 2 Ad Star

In a nostalgic nod to the past, Nintendo has re-released its iconic 1991 SNES TV commercial featuring actor Paul Rudd, with an all-new twist for the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 launch. The retro-futuristic ad pays homage to the original while introducing the console’s latest features.

Paul Rudd, who originally starred in the 1991 advert, returns as the charming lead man, sporting his signature beaded necklace. The new video blurb teases “Step back into 1991 and watch the official Super Nintendo Entertainment System launch commercial featuring Paul Rudd,” alongside the statement “Three decades later, we’re back together again.”

However, the Switch 2’s launch wasn’t just a nostalgic rehashing of the past; it was also accompanied by an update on US tariffs and price changes. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers will now cost $95, with increases to other accessories such as the Switch 2 Pro controller ($85) and camera ($55). On the brighter side, the base Switch 2 console has not seen a price hike.

Additionally, Nintendo hinted at an exciting upcoming release: Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
