Peacock’s “Wicked” Marketing Blitz Promotes Universal Films and Originals

NBCUniversal has kicked off a massive marketing campaign for the upcoming release of “Wicked” on its streaming platform, Peacock. The film, based on the hit Broadway musical, is premiering on March 21 and will be part of NBCU’s “Wicked Week,” which includes exclusive content, character avatars, and genre-specific playlists.

The marketing team has also created a “Wicked” hub featuring a sing-along version of the movie, bonus content, and promotional tie-ins with other Universal films like “Jurassic World” and “Despicable Me.”

According to Jenny Storms, NBCUniversal Television & Streaming’s chief marketing officer, the campaign aims to promote Peacock’s original content, such as Season 2 of “Poker Face,” which returns on May 8. The streaming service has secured exclusive rights to Universal films for a four-month window, and will use this opportunity to showcase its growing library.

“We’re creating an event around ‘Wicked’ that mirrors what we do with the Olympics,” Storms said. “We’ll be promoting Peacock’s Pay One movie output deal with Universal, as well as our original content, like ‘Poker Face.'”
