Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky has introduced two new e-paper smartwatches, the Core 2 Duo and the Core Time 2, which run on the open-source PebbleOS. Both watches are compatible with thousands of apps and offer familiar designs reminiscent of the company’s past.
The Core 2 Duo features a 1.26-inch black and white display, microphone, and polycarbonate frame. It boasts a long-lasting battery life of up to 30 days and tracks sleep, steps, barometer, and compass. Pre-orders are open for $149, with shipments scheduled for July.
Migicovsky’s second smartwatch, the Core Time 2, is his “dream watch” and represents the evolution of the Pebble Time series. It boasts a 64-color e-paper display, metal frame, and buttons. The watch also features a touchscreen, heart rate monitor, microphone, speaker, and IPX8 water-resistance.
Both watches are fully hackable due to PebbleOS being open-source, allowing for potential custom firmware updates. Pre-orders for the Core Time 2 are available now, with shipments scheduled for December.
