A “pediatric death” is defined as the death of an individual under the age of 18. The agency stated they do not provide details about the victim’s age, gender, or location due to respect for privacy. The death was not linked to a flu vaccine since the individual did not receive one this season.
Since 2008-2009, Mississippi has seen 27 pediatric influenza deaths.
