Pedro Martinez Mourns Loss of Family in Dominican Republic Nightclub Collapse

A devastating nightclub collapse in the Dominican Republic has claimed the lives of at least 221 people, with hundreds more injured. Among those affected are several family members of Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez. Martinez expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones and said he was “sad” and “affected” by the tragedy.

Former MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, as well as Monte Cristi province governor Nelsy Cruz, were among the dead. Dotel reportedly survived the initial collapse but died shortly after arrival at a local hospital due to worsening conditions. Martinez grew up in a suburb of Santo Domingo and is a baseball analyst.

The government has announced it is moving into a recovery phase after a 24-hour search for survivors. An investigation into the collapse is expected, with officials yet to release preliminary findings or comment on potential causes. Other notable MLB players, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr., have also offered condolences to their families in the affected country.
