Pedro Pascal Guides Viewers Through ‘Encounters in the Milky Way’

The American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium is set to debut a new space show titled Encounters in the Milky Way. Narrated by actor Pedro Pascal, the 20-minute journey explores stunning visuals of stars, constellations, and planets. The show uses stirring music to create an immersive experience, making viewers feel as if they can blast off into space.

Opening with the majestic Milky Way, Pascal explains how astronomers deciphered celestial movement, revealing our place in the cosmos. The show delves into the Earth’s rotation, seasonal changes, and the movement of constellations over time. It also explores the Sun’s role in this galactic migration.

Based on scientific research, including the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission and NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, Encounters in the Milky Way is a visually stunning show that offers new insights into our solar system. The production team made an unexpected discovery during production, revealing a previously unknown spiral shape in the Oort cloud.

Astronomers, educators, science visualization experts, and artists collaborated on the show. Museum director Carter Emmart believes that the immersive experience will inspire kids to pursue scientific discoveries. “Wonder is a gateway to inspiration, and inspiration is a gateway to motivation,” he said.

Encounters in the Milky Way debuts on June 9 at the Hayden Planetarium, offering a unique perspective on our place in the universe.
