The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the hiring of Dan Muse as their 23rd head coach in franchise history. The decision was made by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas, who praised Muse’s ability to develop players, win at all levels, and lead special teams units to elite results. Muse joins the team with 20 years of coaching experience, including five seasons in the NHL as an assistant coach.
Muse has a proven track record of success, having guided his teams to three divisional titles and two President’s Trophies during his time in the NHL. He also led Nashville’s penalty killing unit to fourth overall in the NHL over his two full seasons with the club. Muse has also won championships at the NCAA, USHL, and IIHF U18 and U20 levels.
Prior to joining the Penguins, Muse spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Yale University, helping the Bulldogs win a National Championship in 2013. He also served as the head coach of the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League and the USA National Team Development Program, leading his teams to multiple championships and gold medals.
Muse will be joined by his family in Pittsburgh, marking an exciting new chapter for the franchise. The team is excited to welcome Muse to the city and looks forward to seeing him take the helm.
