Penn State’s Passing Struggles with Notre Dame Coach Explained

Penn State coach James Franklin acknowledged the Nittany Lions’ struggles completing passes to receivers in their loss to Notre Dame. The team was held back by a defense that used man coverage, making it difficult for quarterback Drew Allar to convert throws.

Allar went 12-of-23 passing with 135 yards and an interception, which led to the winning field goal for the Irish. Despite this, Franklin defended his quarterback, saying he’s a passionate player who invested in his development and teammates’ success.

Franklin credited Notre Dame’s defense for the Nittany Lions’ struggles, but also noted that Allar had some tightly contested throws that didn’t come down. The coach expressed confidence in Allar’s ability to learn from this loss and become even better next year.
