Pepsi Launches Prebiotic Cola with 3g of Fiber

Pepsi is introducing a new prebiotic cola under its namesake brand, featuring three grams of prebiotic fiber. The beverage giant acquired Poppi, a prebiotic soda brand, for nearly $2 billion four months ago. This move comes as Pepsi aims to leverage health trends, such as protein and fiber crazes, to attract customers in the US market.

The new cola, called Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, will be available online starting this fall and in retailers next year. It contains three grams of prebiotic fiber, more than Poppi’s soda but less than Olipop’s. The drink also features five grams of cane sugar. As demand for its drinks falls domestically, Pepsi is shifting focus towards health-conscious consumers.

The launch follows Coke’s introduction of Simply Pop prebiotic soda brand in February. The company has not confirmed President Trump’s claim about Coca-Cola reintroducing “REAL Cane Sugar” to its namesake soda. With the US market facing declining soda consumption over the past two decades, Pepsi is hoping to capitalize on the growing demand for prebiotic sodas.
