Perdue Chicken Heiress Sells Family Estate in New Hampshire for $9.99M

The family estate of Mitzi Perdue, the widow of Perdue Chicken CEO Frank Perdue, has been sold to new owners after she reduced the asking price from $15 million to just under $10 million. The 125-year-old Knollwood estate in Dublin, New Hampshire, features a stunning Georgian-revival mansion with 40-mile views over 100 acres of land.

Knollwood was originally listed for $15 million but is now the most expensive home on record in the area. Despite the reduced price, it’s still significantly higher than other homes in the region, including a modern six-bedroom home asking $4.75 million.

Mitzi Perdue, who lived in the estate until her sister Augusta Petrone passed away at 88, said she would love to see someone enjoy the property as much as they did. The family has owned the property for about 70 years, with only two previous owners since its construction by Franklin MacVeagh, US Secretary of the Treasury.

The grand home boasts an impressive interior, including a foyer with a fireplace, imperial staircase, reception rooms with hardwood floors, and a ballroom with space for 120. The estate also features beautiful lawns, gardens, and a boutique vineyard, plus a three-car garage with apartment above.

Knollwood’s history is rich, having been visited by notable figures such as Mark Twain and President William Howard Taft.
