Period Horror Movie Sinners Sizzles with $7.8M Monday Earnings

Warner Bros’ period horror movie Sinners had a strong opening on its first Monday, earning $7.8 million. This marks the second-best Monday ever for an R-rated horror movie after 2017’s It, which grossed $8.76 million. In terms of overall earnings, Sinners is now at $55.8 million with a global total of $75.5 million.

Sinners outperformed other recent horror releases, including World War Z and A Quiet Place Part II. The film’s success can be attributed to its premium formats, which have been a key driver for its earnings. Imax screens accounted for 45% of the movie’s opening weekend gross, with PLFS leading at 22%.

The film’s director, Ryan Coogler, has brought in a strong following, and word-of-mouth is expected to continue propelling the film forward. Analysts predict that Sinners will exceed $20 million in its second weekend, indicating “legs” for the movie.

As the film continues to gain momentum, Warner Bros may consider adding more theaters to capitalize on its success.
