Perry Criticizes Insurance Companies’ Role in Devastating LA Wildfires

Tyler Perry has spoken out against insurance companies for their role in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, criticizing them for canceling policies and leaving residents without protection.

In a post on his Instagram, Perry shared a tragic scene where he witnessed an elderly woman using a garden hose to protect her parents’ home after their insurance was canceled. He accused insurance companies of taking billions of dollars from communities and then suddenly canceling millions of policies, citing greed as the reason.

The Los Angeles Times reported that insurers like State Farm General announced they would not renew thousands of home insurance policies in fire-prone areas in 2024. This move has been met with widespread criticism, with many residents accusing insurance companies of prioritizing profits over people.

Despite the criticism, insurance companies argue that changes must be made to cover insurance in California, including raising premiums. Consumer advocates have accused them of focusing on profits rather than helping those affected by natural disasters.

California offers the FAIR Plan as a backup option for some damages and costs. However, residents with other insurance policies were left with costlier options and inadequate means to cover their losses.

The wildfires are expected to be the costliest in US history, with estimated economic losses of around $50 billion. Many celebrities, including Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, Billy Crystal, and Paris Hilton, have lost their homes in the fires.

Perry has expressed his desire to help those affected and is keeping everyone in his prayers.
