A Peruvian fisherman was rescued after drifting at sea for 94 days, according to a navy official. Maximo Napa, 61, was found alive on Tuesday in his small fishing boat, which had lost course due to bad weather and strong currents.
Napa told local media that he survived by eating cockroaches, birds, and a turtle. His emotional words were: “I didn’t want to die for my mother… I clung to that every day.” He was discharged from hospital on Saturday in the coastal city of Paita, in good physical condition despite being shocked.
Napa had set sail on December 7 from San Juan de Marcona and lost his boat’s radio beacon. His family never gave up hope of finding him, with his daughter Ines Napa saying: “It is a miracle that my father has been found.”
