Peruvian Woman Accused of Smuggling Cocaine in Bali

A 42-year-old Peruvian woman has been charged with attempting to smuggle $70,000-worth of cocaine and ecstasy into Bali, concealed in her underwear and a sex toy. The woman, identified only by initials N.S., was stopped by customs officials who felt she was acting suspiciously.

According to police, the narcotics were hidden in six plastic packages wrapped in black duct tape inside a green bra and three similar packages in black underwear. A sex toy containing drugs was also inserted into her body. Authorities found 1.4kg of cocaine and 43 ecstasy pills in total.

The woman revealed she had been paid $19,000 to smuggle the drugs by someone she met on the dark web in April. She took a flight from Barcelona to Bali with a stopover in Doha and arrived at the international airport on August 12.

Indonesia has severe punishments for drug smuggling, but has temporarily halted the death penalty since 2017. In a similar case last month, three British nationals avoided the death penalty after they were found guilty of smuggling cocaine disguised as packets of Angel Delight into Indonesia.
