Pet Food Recalled Due to Bird Flu Risk

A US-based pet food company has issued a nationwide recall of its frozen raw chicken formula after discovering potential contamination with the deadly bird flu virus. Wild Coast Raw’s Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula is being recalled in 16 and 24 ounces due to the risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1. The product was distributed in Washington State and Oregon.

Pet owners are warned to be vigilant for symptoms such as fever, lethargy, and difficulty breathing in their cats, which can range from mild to severe. If your cat exhibits these symptoms, seek veterinary attention immediately. The FDA advises pet owners to wash hands thoroughly after handling the product and sanitize surfaces they come into contact with.

This recall comes amid an ongoing bird flu outbreak in the country, which has already infected domestic cats in New Jersey. While no human infections have been reported, people can become infected if the virus enters their eyes, nose, or mouth.
