Pete Alonso arrived at spring training Monday and expressed his eagerness to help the Mets make an even longer playoff run in 2025. The four-time All-Star believes that making a deep postseason run requires more than just talent, but also hard work and dedication.
Alonso signed a two-year, $54 million contract with the Mets, which he feels helped push the market forward for players of his age group. He noted that the qualifying offer affected his free agency, along with other players in their 30s, including Carlos Correa and Matt Chapman.
The All-Star player worked on improving his swing mechanics and defense during the offseason, including analyzing errors he made throwing to second base. Alonso emphasized that the team’s talent is undeniable, but they must earn their way to the playoffs and ultimately win the World Series.
“Nothing is guaranteed, and it’s gonna be a really fun year,” Alonso said. “We have our work cut out for us this year.” The Mets’ main goal is to win the championship, but Alonso knows that capturing that moment on the field will require consistent effort throughout the season.
