Pfizer Hires Former FDA Head As Chief Medical Officer

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has announced that Patrizia Cavazzoni will join the company as its new chief medical officer, leading regulatory and safety efforts. Cavazzoni, a former head of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), was one of several top FDA officials who left ahead of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s confirmation as secretary of the Health and Human Services Department. At Pfizer, she will oversee interactions with regulators worldwide, monitor medicines for safety, and provide medical information to doctors. This move comes after Cavazzoni previously worked at Pfizer from 2018 until her departure in 2020 when she joined the FDA.
