PGA Tour and LIV Golf Meet with President Trump, No Deal Reached

The PGA Tour and LIV Golf met with President Trump on Thursday, but a deal to reunite the two factions of men’s golf remains elusive. Despite the meeting, both sides released statements expressing their commitment to reconciling, but no timetable for the game’s reunion was set.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and player representatives Tiger Woods and Adam Scott met with President Trump at the White House. The meeting led to a statement from Monahan, Woods, and Scott, saying they are committed to moving quickly towards reunification.

However, the schism between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf dates back over three years, with LIV breaking away from the Tour in 2022. The split has resulted in a fractured golf world where top players meet only four times a year at majors and other occasional events.

In June 2023, the two sides reached a surprise “framework agreement” that seemed to indicate peace was within reach. But negotiations stalled, and hopes for a resolution faded in recent months.

President Trump’s meeting with the PGA Tour representatives is seen as a positive sign, given his Justice Department’s favorable stance on an agreement between the two entities and his substantial business connections in the golf world.

Tiger Woods expressed cautious optimism about a deal being reached soon. “I think things are going to heal quickly,” he said. While initial reports suggested a deal could be imminent, some form of reconciliation may happen in the near future.
