The PGA Tour’s top players, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, defeated the LIV Golf duo Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka by a wide margin in the 2024 edition of The Showdown. The contest, which began as ‘The Match’ between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in 2018, saw the rival circuits face off over 18 holes in Las Vegas.
McIlroy and Scheffler took an early lead with a 3&2 victory in the four-ball session after just four holes. They maintained their advantage throughout the competition, winning the foursomes on the 12th hole. DeChambeau and Koepka needed to win both singles matchups, but were unable to overcome the PGA pair’s dominant performance.
Scheffler, who has enjoyed a record-breaking season with nine wins in 2024, including gold at the Paris Olympics and victory in the FedEx Cup, jokingly said he doesn’t know much about crypto currency, but is motivated to learn more after securing his prize. McIlroy attributed their success to maintaining momentum throughout the competition.
In contrast, DeChambeau conceded defeat, describing the match as a “pillow fight.” The victory marks another significant win for the PGA Tour in its rivalry with LIV Golf.
