The PGA Tour has announced that next month’s Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate site due to wildfires in the Los Angeles area that have killed at least 25 people and destroyed thousands of structures. The event, which is hosted by Tiger Woods, was originally scheduled for February 13-16 at Riviera Country Club.
The tour cited safety concerns as the reason for the move, but said it would provide an update on the alternate location in the coming days. Potential sites under consideration include La Quinta Country Club, Torrey Pines, and TPC Scottsdale in Arizona.
Riviera Country Club was not damaged by the fires, but the surrounding area was affected. The Genesis Invitational is one of the PGA Tour’s signature events with a $20 million purse. Tiger Woods’ organization has been focused on providing support to those affected by the wildfires, rather than the tournament itself.
