PGA Tour Reunification Talks with Trump Yield Positive Progress

The PGA Tour has met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, aiming to reunify professional golf. Commissioner Jay Monahan and player directors Tiger Woods and Adam Scott attended the meeting with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan present.

Monahan described it as a “constructive working session” and expressed gratitude for the leadership of President Trump, who initiated discussions on golf reunification. The PGA Tour has been in talks to form an alliance with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) since June 2023.

The deal aims to inject $1.5 billion into the tour’s for-profit entity, PGA Tour Enterprises. However, U.S. lawmakers have raised national security concerns due to potential ties between the PIF and the rival LIV Golf League.

Despite these challenges, Woods expressed positive sentiments about negotiations with the PIF, stating that things are moving forward quickly. The goal is to reunify professional golf, allowing top players to compete together more often for fans.

The PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and PIF announced a framework agreement in 2023, which expired at the end of last year. The tour is committed to delivering this outcome for its fans, with Monahan promising to share additional details as the talks progress.
