The Philadelphia Phillies made a strong comeback in their series against the Washington Nationals on Sunday, defeating them 11-9 behind Alec Bohm’s three-run home run and Nick Castellanos’ deep shot. In his first game since July 18, Bohm drove in four runs as the Phillies tied for the lead with Aaron Nola’s return from injury.
Nola gave up six runs in just 2 1/3 innings but was supported by Tanner Banks’ scoreless relief and Jhoan Duran’s 21st save of the season. The Nationals, meanwhile, fell to 18-36 in day games as Paul DeJong hit a late three-run homer.
The Phillies earned a four-game series split and moved closer to the top of the NL East standings after dropping their last five games. With their pitching plans uncertain for Monday’s game against Seattle, the Phillies are looking to keep their momentum going behind Bohm’s strong return.
